With the love of beachcombing and the love of creating, Emery Bay Designs was created. I have been collecting beach glass (also known as seaglass) from local beaches throughout Puget Sound. All of the glass that I use is genuine beach glass, meaning it is found at the beach and is not a reproduction. The glass found on beaches comes from shipwrecks, old costal dumps, garbage dumped at sea, items left behind from beach goers, or from glass items that were carried to the ocean by various waterways. The broken glass is worn smooth by the ocean. Sharp edges are soften as the glass tumbles over rocks. It is rounded and becomes frosted by the natural sandblasting action of the ocean. The glass can be found in many colors. The most common colors are brown, green and white. It is known to come in about every color, some of the rarest colors are reds and oranges. It is unknown how old the seaglass is but most of what is found in the US is thought to be from the late 1800's to the 1960's. Beach glass is becoming incresingly more difficult to find due to environmental awareness and bottling companies using alternatives to glass such as plastic. Due to the uniqueness of every piece of beach glass, no two designs are the same. All my designs are a unique piece of history.
